Unfortunately, my Atlanta Falcons coverage has been spotty at best. First, I completely missed the Birds’ outstanding season opener – no Michael Turner 200+ rush yards for me and no Matt Ryan first pass equals touchdown for me. When I finally got to see the Birds for the first time, it was week two and Tampa Bay blasted the Birds. Finally, I got to see the Falcons’ 38-14 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
I realize the season’s young, but this team is showing glimpses of the Dirty Birds of old. The offense is smash mouth, with Michael Turner rushing for 104 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jerious Norwood added 75 yards. Matt Ryan continued to show growth, finishing 12 of 18 for 192 yards and 1 touchdown, and “Rowdy” Roddy White is finally living up to his first round draft pick, finishing with 119 receiving yards.
The Dirty Birds’ defense played great. They didn’t allow a first down until the second quarter. The team had three interceptions, with cornerback Chris Houston returning one back for a touchdown. Lawyer Malloy and John Abraham added tons of tackles and pressures. As a fan, it felt so good seeing the team dominate.
