#2 Georgia 14, South Carolina 7

The University Bulldogs won a well fought battle against Steve Spurrier’s defensively minded South Carolina Gamecocks. The game wasn’t pretty, as Georgia receivers dropped catchable balls and the defense committed 11 penalties and gave South Carolina over 1oo yards. Quarterback Matthew Stafford finished 15 of 25 for 146 yards, and Knowshon Moreno rushed for 79 yards and 1 touchdown. The game ball goes to Reshad Jones, who intercepted a pass with 13 seconds left in Bulldogs’ territory.

As a result of the Bulldogs sluggish play, the national media and coach’s poll dropped my beloved Dawgs to the third spot. Many of the writers and coaches probably don’t realize that for the fifth year in a row, the winner of this game scored fewer than 20 points, and six of eight meetings under Coach Mark RIcht have been decided by 7 or fewer points.

The drop in the polls clearly shows that many of the pundits and coaches clearly question whether Georgia is one of the best teams in the country. My reply to the doubters – the Georgia Bulldogs is one of the best teams in the country, and as they progress through the nation’s toughest schedule, they’ll have numerous opportunities to answer the critics.

As a fan, I’m glad the Bulldogs fell in the rankings because hopefully the coaching staff can use this as a motivational tool and get the team fired up for the meat of their schedule.
