Bulldogs Slide, Trojans Jump

Despite Georgia’s dominate 45-21 win over Georgia Southern, the respective AP and Coaches’ Poll removed the Bulldogs from the top spot to #2 in the country. The University of Southern California jumped from the third spot to #1 this week. The pollsters apparently based the jump on the Trojans’ impressive 52-7 win over Virginia, a BCS conference opponent, as compared to the Bulldogs’ win over a Division I-AA team.

As a Bulldog fan, I’m not bothered by the slide because hopefully it can be used to motivate the team. Coach Mark Richt can inform the team that if you don’t play and win like the #1 team in the country, then they won’t be considered the top team in the country. To be honest, it really doesn’t matter this early in the season if the Dawgs are considered the top team in the country, it really only matters in December if they hold the #1 or #2 spot because then they’ll have an opportunity to play for the national title in January.
