Cream in My Coffee

I’ve finally return to the Carpet Capital after a wonderful visit to Cream City aka Beer City. Swamps was her amazingly beautiful, humorous, loving, and intelligent self. I definitely picked a winner. We enjoyed the city – visiting the new Discovery World science museum, dinning at Saffron Indian Bistro, touring the renovated Historic Third Ward district, and eating our fair share of Leon’s frozen custard. Beer City’s newest museum is Discovery World. It’s dedicated to exploring innovative scientific discoveries and features exhibits on genetics and robotics. It even features several aquariums with various Great Lake fish. Unfortunately, Discovery World is only 60% complete. A majority of the exhibits were incomplete, either nonfunctioning or unexplained; thus making it not as enjoyable as it could be; however, to its credit – the museum does warn patrons prior to purchasing tickets that it’s 60% complete, but doesn’t really go into detail on what that really means. My opinion – wait until the museum is 100% complete before going. You’ll probably learn more and leave more satisfied.

If you like Indian food, then you’ll enjoy Saffron Indian Bistro. Its located 20 minutes outside Beer City in beautiful Brookfield, Wisconsin. Saffron has an affordable lunch buffet with a variety of fine entries and deserts. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t know the names or remember the names of most of the foods I ate, but I do remember it was tasty, affordable, and had won several local awards for food excellence. Give it a try.

Milwaukee has done a wonderful job with the renovated Historic Third Ward district. It really is the city’s best kept secret. Formally it was a warehouse district, but now it boasts the highest concentration of art galleries in Beer City along with yummy restaurants, funky stores, and one of the best fresh food markets in the city. The district hosted Fall Gallery Night last Friday, where all the art galleries and stores were open late and people could look at the exhibits, shop, and slip wine as they walked through the district. If you’re ever in the Historic Third Ward, check out The Wicked Hop, a funky restaurant with great food and atmosphere, and check out the Home Market, an elegant shop with cool furnishings for your home.

Last but not least, a visit to Cream City wouldn’t be complete without visiting Leon’s Frozen Custard. In my opinion, it’s the best dessert coming out Milwaukee. It’s like ice cream but not. It comes in the traditional flavors: butter pecan, chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, and on some occasions they have mint. It doesn’t matter if it’s cold because it always makes your tummy feel warm.
