Wounded Buffalos will fight for they’re life when surrounded by hostile opposing players and fans. The Georgia Bulldogs learned this lesson the hard way as the Colorado Buffalos gave them as much a fight as they could handle. The Buffs lead the entire game, sustaining drives on offense and dominating on defense. Colorado’s play action / opinion offense gave Georgia fits. Our players seemed a step too slow and confused. The Buffalo’s run defense held Georgia to only 52 yards on the ground, and their blitz formations made UGA quarterback Matthew Stafford look like the true freshman he is.
As stated above, Stafford showed that he was a true freshman in this game. His play was inconsistent, but considering the amount of dropped passes, he did the best he could. He went 8 of 16 for 76 yards. Coach Mark Richt probably made his best coaching decision of the afternoon when he pulled Stafford in the middle of the third quarter and inserted red-shirt freshman Joe Cox as the quarterback.
Cox’s play ignited the stagnate play of the Bulldogs. He showed great poise in the pocket, completing his first five passes as he lead the UGA no huddle offense. He went 10 of 13 for 154 yards and 2 touchdowns. Considering UGA was down 13 – 0 when he came into the game, Joe Cox may have reignited the Georgia quarterback race and earned more playing time.
I’m interested to see who gets the quarterback start against Ole Miss. I’m also interested in what adjustments UGA will make. The Bulldogs looked terrible against the Buffalos. I hope today’s game was merely an anomaly and not a true indication of how weak our team is this season. The team looked flat and Coach Richt made some bad coaching decision. We have one more weak to work the clinks and then Tennessee comes to town.
Next Week: Ole Mississippi

It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldawg - even when we kind of suck. Although we didn’t exactly have an amazing victory at least we had a victory. I’m proud of our guys. A win is a win. We’ll get Tennessee next week and we’ll get them good. Maybe a close call is what our guys need to pump them up!
