The Georgia Bulldogs finished the 2010 season on a sour note as they suffered an embarassing 6-10 loss at the Auto Zone Liberty Bowl. The Central Florida Knights pushed the Bulldogs around and my beloved Bulldogs looked ill prepared and unmotivated. As a result of their loss and poor performance, Georgia finished the season with a 6-7 record and fans are stuck wondering which direction our program is headed. Unfortunately, it feels like we're spiraling downward.
I think Coach Mark Richt deserves to return, as this was his first losing season, but if the team doesn't show improvement next year, it may be time for a coaching change. It appears that our players lack an aggressive edge (or alternatively) a business-like mentality that other teams appear to have. We're not only starting to lose to lower tier SEC teams, but now we're starting to lose to the Colorado, Oklahoma State, and Central Florida teams of the NCAA. I mean no disrespect to these teams, but UGA, a perennial SEC powerhouse, shouldn't be losing to these schools.
Although we're nine days into 2011, but UGA's 2011 pre-season is starting off bad. First, two high profile prep stars spurned Georgia for Alabama and Auburn respectively. Second, it is announced that Uga VIII has lymphoma. Third, A.J. Green announced the inevitable; he is foregoining his senior season and declared himself eligible for the NFL draft. Green finishes his college career with 23 touchdowns and 166 receptions in 32 games.
I don't blame Green for declaring his eligibility. His draft stock couldn't get any higher. If someone told me I'd be a top 5 pick and possibly earn millions of guaranteed dollars, I'd leave college and pursue a professional football career. Thanks for the memories Green and best of luck at the next level!
