The last weekend in October, traditionally reserved for the Georgia versus Flordia game, has turned into heartback weekend for the Bulldog Nation as our beloved team just can't seem to beat the Gators. It doesn't matter if we're better on paper or having a better season, the orange and blue just seem to have our number and it seems like there's nothing we can do about it. At this point, it's a one sided rivarly.
I really felt this was our year because we had the better offense and our defense was good enough to stop Florida's average offense. Unfortunately, quarter Aaron Murray decided to play like a redshirt freshman. He generated 4 turnovers all by himself - 3 interceptions and 1 fumble. Morever, he couldn't hit the side of barn during the first quarter, so the Gators simply stacked the box and focused on stopping the run. When he finally did get hot, he threw an untimely interception in overtime that all but killed UGA's chance for the win.
Although Murray started out poor, he kept his head up and finished with decent numbers, going 18 of 37 for 313 yards and 3 touchdowns. As a fan, I'm encouraged by his continued fight and his ability to lead the team and get them back in the game. Our stable of running backs rushed for over 100 yards and 1 touchdown, while tight end Orson Charles put up career best - 6 catches for 108 yards and 1 touchdown. Tavarres King finished with 104 receiving yards and 1 touchdown, and A.J. Green finished with 42 yards and 1 touchdown. I was surprised that the Dawgs didn't call Green's number more often.
I thought the defense played well, considering the offense turned the ball over 4 times. The 3-4 is going to be nasty once these guys learn it completely. We still need to learn how to stop team's on third and long.
In conclusion, I hate that the Dawgs lost, but I'm excited by the fight they showed. Unlike previous years, Florida didn't beat us, we beat ourselves.
