I hate sounding so dramatic, but America is at a crossroads and there is a legitimate battle for her conscious. Are we truly a country on a hill, where all are provided an opportunity to earn success, or are we content to just proclaim to be such a country, but in reality few are provided such an opportunity? Based on recent debates and bills, I believe the Democratic Party is advocating for the former, while the Republican Party (and Tea Partiers) are content with the latter.
I am admittedly not a constitutional scholar, but I know enough about the document (thanks to my constitutional law professor and my independent reading of the document and supporting papers) to be troubled by the Republicans (and Tea Partiers) bastardization of the principles enumerated in our founding document. Furthermore, I am troubled by their use of misinformation to advocate their positions.
I voted today, have you?
