Undefeated Utah Slighted by BCS System

I normally cheer for SEC schools in bowl games, but last night as I watched the Sugar Bowl I found myself cheering for the Utah Utes because of their uncompromising offensive and defensive attack on the Alabama Crimson Tide. The final score was 31-17. Alabama was simply stunned during the first quarter because of Utah’s undersized but fast defense that forced them into three and outs and turnovers. Moreover, Alabama had no answer for Utah quarterback Brian Johnson who orchestrated three touchdown drives during the first three offensive drives of the game. Johnson finished 27 of 41 for 336 yards and 3 touchdowns.

After watching Utah’s dominating performance in the Sugar Bowl it makes me wish they had an opportunity to compete for the national title. I mean no disrespect to Florida or Oklahoma, but the Utes are undefeated and like both of them they’ve beat a former #1 rank school. If we had a tournament, Utah’s journey wouldn’t be over as they’d have an opportunity to play Southern California, Virginia Tech, Ohio State / Texas, or Florida / Oklahoma.

Maybe one day we’ll have a tournament to crown a true national champion as opposed to having writers, coaches, and computers picking who they think should compete for the title.
