It’s hard to believe, but I’ve been in the Cream City for one whole year. It seems like yesterday when I packed “all” my earthly belongings in goldie and made the fourteen hour, 845 mile drive from Carpet Capital to Cream City. At the time, my emotions were full as I left my birth state and headed to the Midwest to find fame, fortune, and love.
Cream City year one was an interesting experience as I learned about my new “home” and learned the subtle differences between the South and Midwest. Initially, I had two missions – survive the blistering 90 degree heat in an apartment without air condition and prepare for the Wisconsin bar. Fortunately, I mastered both and prepared for the onslaught that is known as winter, where the seasonal snow total ended up being 100 inches and at least two solid months with temperatures in the negative degrees and toping out at 10 degrees.
Cream City year one did introduced me to very tasty Leon’s Custard, which is sort of like ice cream but so much better. The park along the coast of Lake Michigan provided me with lots of space to run, walk, and ride my mountain bike. Most interestingly, I really enjoyed the convenience of living in the city where I could walk to work and social events.
