Happy Trails Warrick Dunn!

Yesterday the Atlanta Falcons released veteran tailback Warrick Dunn after signing free-agent running back Michael Turner. Dunn played six seasons with the Birds and was in integral part in our running offensive. He rushed over 10,000 yards in his career and has over 43 touchdowns.

I understand that the Falcons had to release Dunn as it’s time to rebuild and move toward the future, but it’s hard to see a guy like him let go because he was such a leader on and off the field. Dunn’s Homes for the Holidays has assisted over 45 single mothers and 120 children in the
Atlanta, Baton Rouge, and Tampa area. The program helps single mothers purchase homes. Dunn’s community contributions have been recognized by former President Bill Clinton when Dunn won the Giant Step Award and Dunn was the 2005 Walter Payton Man of the Year.

I’ve actually met Warrick Dunn in downtown Atlanta and he was a cool guy. He shook my hand and when I told him I was a Falcons’ fan, he thanked me for my support. Additionally, I think Dunn is amazing because he’s 5’8 and 170 pounds and he’s still about to hang with the giant sized men in the NFL. You will be missed Warrick Dunn!
