President Bush Finds Noose Displays Offensive

There aren’t many times when I can say I agree with President George W. Bush; however, yesterday was one of those rare days. President Bush stated that the recent displays of nooses are disturbing. The president continued, “The noose is not a symbol of prairie justice, but of gross injustice…displaying one is not a harmless prank. Lynching is not a word to be mentioned in jest.” He went on to say, that “as a civil society, Americans should agree that noose displays and lynching jokes are deeply offensive.” Bush hammered his point by reminding listeners that for decades, the noose was a symbolic part of a campaign of violence, fear, and intimidation against Blacks, which left Blacks feeling intimidated and powerless. He also noted that sometimes law enforcement officers orchestrated the devilish acts.
