#5 Georgia 41, #10 Hawaii 10

First off, I want to congratulate Hawaii on their undefeated season. They were the only Division I-A school to finish the drill with an unblemished record. I don’t care what conference you play in or who you play out of conference; it takes a pretty good and disciplined football team to get up for every opponent and walk away victorious.

What that being said, this Sugar Bowl match up was never really close. For all the hype of the Rainbow Warrior offense, it never really got started because
Georgia’s G-Day defense completely overmatched Hawaii. The Warriors never got in sync and for a majority of the game, they looked overwhelmed. The Bulldog defense held Hawaii’s superstar quarterback Colt Brennan to 22 of 38 for just 169 yards, less than half of his 348 yard average this season. The defense sacked Brennan 8 times and forced 4 interceptions.

Senior defensive player Marcus Howard was named MVP of the game. He had 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and tipped a ball that was intercepted by a teammate. Asher Allen had 2 interceptions, Rennie Curran had 2 sacks, Prince Miller had 1 interception, and Dannell Ellerbe had 1 interception that he ran back for a touchdown.

Georgia’s offense matched its defense’s intensity. Matthew Stafford finished 14 of 23 for 175 yards and 1 touchdown. Senor running back Thomas Brown rushed for 73 yards and 1 touchdown, while running back of the future Knowshon Moreno rushed for 61 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 26 yards receiving. Wide receiver Sean Bailey caught one touchdown pass.

Overall,
Georgia fans couldn’t have asked for a better evening of football. From the coaching staff to the second string guys, the Dawgs played 60 minutes worth of hard nose football. Georgia made a legitimate case for the Bulldog Nation’s claim that our team should’ve gotten to play for the national title. For the second straight year, the Bulldogs ended the season as one of the hottest teams in college football. If the end of the season AP Poll and Coaches Poll picks someone other than Louisiana State or Ohio State as the #1 team in the county, then it should be Georgia because this Bulldogs in Black deserve to call themselves national champions.
