All-State Sugar Bowl
You can’t spell sugar without UGA, as my beloved Georgia Bulldogs challenge the undefeated WAC Champion Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in the All-State Sugar Bowl. As far as I know, the Dawgs are highly favored to win this game because of their offensive balance, defensive dominance, and the fact that they ended the season with wins over schools in the top 25. Critics discredit the Rainbow Warriors because they play in the non-BCS WAC conference and their out-of-conference schedule was weak.
I’m really looking forward to this game because I think it has the potential to be an offensive slug fest. Hawaii supposedly throws the ball 50+ times a game, their wide receivers are suppose to be fast and physical, their offensive line is supposed to be big and strong, and they have a chip on their shoulder to prove that they belong with the big boys.
In order for Georgia to win this game, first and for most, they can’t overlook Hawaii because any team can win on any day. A game is a game and Georgia has to beat them between the tackles. The best way to slow a high powered offense is to keep it off the field. Georgia needs to run the ball with Knowshon Moreno and Thomas Brown and eat up the clock. Defensively, Georgia needs to apply pressure to Heisman contender Colt Brennan and force him to make mistakes.
Unfortunately for Georgia, they’re in a catch 22. If they beat Hawaii, people will say, “You’re suppose to beat them because they’re from the WAC” and if they lose, people will say, “Georgia was overrated and shouldn’t have gotten the benefit of the doubt to play for the national championship.” I guess we’ll all have to tune in to see if Georgia handles its business or if Hawaii rises to the occasion. If I was a betting man, I’d place my money on the Georgia. Go Dawgs!
