Both Birds Disappoint
Atlanta teams continue to disappoint. First, I’m boycotting the Falcons because of their poor play. If you read my blog consistently, I normally do a Falcons update after every game, but I’ve voluntarily skipped the last three games. Honestly, it would be easy for me to watch the games as there’s a sports bar down the block that shows all the NFL games, but why should I spend 3 hours of my Sunday watching a team that has underperformed all season. A two game winning streak against teams even worse than them doesn’t count. If they at least tried and fell short, i.e. lost by a touchdown or field goal, I’d watch without complaint, except for the lost, but I’d invest my time and my money, as I have to buy something at the bar to watch. But when the team comes out so flat and looks so unprepared, then I’m too smart of a sports fan to waste my afternoon and money watching a poor product. My wife is excited about my boycott.
Second, the Hawks are put on notice that if they don’t shape up, they’ll be boycotted the next time they come to Cream City. Swamps and I went to the Hawks v. Bucks game on Saturday night and the looked so under prepared that it wasn’t even funny. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, this was the second game in a back-to-back, i.e. the Hawks played Seattle to a double overtime loss on Friday in Atlanta, and flew to Milwaukee to play the Bucks on Saturday, but I expected more effort. Josh Childress was slipping all over the place, Marvin Williams couldn’t make a shot until the 4th quarter and at one point, Coach Mike Woodson had Holford, S. Williams, A. Johnson, Childress, and M. Williams on the court and we couldn’t buy a bucket.
The only person who played was Josh Smith, who had a big night, and Joe Johnson, who happened to be the only person who could score in the 4th quarter. NBA tickets aren’t cheap, especially two of them. My team doesn’t have to win every time, but they at least need to compete with the opposition and appear to have a chance of winning.
