Black Out Auburn

Georgia Bulldog seniors requested a “BLACK OUT” for Saturday’s game against the Auburn Tigers and I’m not talking about a television black out. Seniors want all fans to wear the color black to the game as opposed to wearing red. The seniors hope to spark excitement and solidarity. The game against Auburn is the “South’s Oldest Rivalry”, and UGA hasn’t beat both Florida and Auburn in same year since 1982.

Everyone is speculating as to whether the Bulldogs will don the often marketed but never used black jersey. Coach Richt hasn’t denied they’ll wear it, but he hasn’t come out and proclaimed they’ll wear them either. Georgia seniors previously asked for a black out against Tennessee in 2005; there was little fan participation, the Dawgs came out in their traditional red jerseys, and we lost the game.

As a fan, I hope that the football team comes out in Bulldog Black because it puts the fans and Auburn on notice that this is a special game and we’re here to win. Although I won’t be at the game as I’m in Cream City, I’ll be watching it live on CBS and I’ll be wearing my Bulldog Black.

Read the post titled “Bulldog Black” to learn more about my feelings toward the black jersey and how it can be used in special and limited situations to motivate the team and fans.
