I want to say big up and much love to all diehard Georgia Bulldog fans who BLACKED OUT Sanford Stadium. At least 90% of the stadium wore black as opposed to red. I know the media had been speculating all week about the Dawgs wearing black, but my heart almost skipped a beat when the Dawgs run out in the black jerseys with red trim and white numbers, traditional silver britches with the red, white, black strip, black socks and shoes, and the much loved black Georgia “G” on the red helmet with white strip. I’m not much for wearing jerseys, but I’d go out and buy a black jersey because they looked that good.
The energy level for Saturday’s game was off the charts – players and fans dancing and having a good time, even when we fell behind early, we all knew Georgia was going to win the game. I promise you, I could feel the vibe and confidence through the television. I wish I could’ve been there to see the game live and feel the emotion.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford continued to show maturity and promise, going 11 of 19 for 272 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. The two touchdown throws were amazing. The touchdown pass to Mohammad Massaquoi was thrown perfectly. Massaquoi caught the ball in full running stride, and the touchdown pass to Sean Bailey was thrown in such a tight place, that although Bailey was completely covered, he was the only person who was going to get the ball.
Knownshon Moreno continued to excite and amaze, rushing for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns. It was good seeing Thomas Brown back in the line up. He finished with 81 yards, with an amazing 53 yard rush, and 1 touchdown. Brown gets big ups for great pass protection. It’s so rare to see a halfback out there blocking. Fullback Brannan Southerland also pounded in 1 touchdown. The Georgia wide receivers are finally catching the ball on a consistent basis. Sean Bailey finished with 96 yards and 1 touchdown; Mohammad Massaquoi finished with 58 yards and 1 touchdown.
My offensive game ball goes to the Bulldog offensive line because our young team is playing amazing and they’re allowing Stafford and Moreno to do their respective thing. We’re starting two freshman and these guys are holding it down and not being intimidated.
The G-Day defense may have allowed 20 points, but they’re playing like gangbusters. The linebackers are hitting the heck out of people; the corners and safeties are providing tight coverage and making interceptions. Kelin Johnson had 2 interceptions, Thomas Flowers and Bryan Evans each had 1 interception, and the overall defense is playing with intensity and swagger. I like it.
My defensive game ball goes to the whole squad because overall, they’re getting the job done and playing great team ball. Keep up the good work.
Please Coach Mark Richt and the rest of coaches – continue doing what you’re doing because Georgia is finally playing ball the way I envisioned them playing. The offensive is high powered and balanced, the defense is nasty and mean, the fans are crazy excited, and you and the rest of the coaching staff are showing appropriate energy on the sidelines. I don’t mind unsportsmanlike penalties as long as the team’s not being dirty – I think it’s a good thing for players to show emotion and play with confidence. I’m glad you’re finally relaxed and having fun.
Next week the Dawgs host the Kentucky Wildcats. If we want to play in the SEC title game, we have to revenge last year’s lost to the Kats. Our backs are against the wall and with this Georgia squad, I know we’re up for the challenge. GO DAWGS!
