Georgia's offense finally showed up after a slow start to beat Ole Missisppi 45-17. Running back Thomas Brown literally ran over Ole Miss, rushing for 180 yards and 3 touchdowns, and quarterback Matthew Stafford went 13 of 21 for 144 yards and 1 touchdown. The Bulldogs needed this win as they held to Tennessee next week to play the Vols. The Dawgs need to beat the Vols if they hope to win the SEC East, especially since Kentucky is hot right now. In other words, there are no more given SEC games. Auburn helped them last night with a win over Florida, so the Dawgs fate is in their hands.
The Falcons finally earned a win over the Houston Texans and ruined former Falcon, Matt Schaub, backup quarterback, homecoming. Joey Harrington continued to be efficient, going 23 of 29 for 223 yards and 2 touchdowns. The signing of Byron Leftwich was the best thing the Falcons could've done to motivate Harrington because Joey's been playing with confidence and efficancy. Wide receiver Michael Jenkins finally showed up, catching 2 touchdowns and netting 64 yards. Roddy White is also contributed 64 yards, while running back Warrick Dunn rushed for 62 yards.
A side story for this win, is the Fun Bobby's decision to not start two time Pro Bowl cornerback D'Angelo Hall. Hall was benched after is meltdown last week, where he caused the Birds 67 yards in penalties and got into a heated argument with Petrino on the sidelines. After last week, it is pretty evident that these to don't like each other and AJC reporters are speculating that Hall, who is in his final year of his contract, may not resign with the Birds.
Hopefully, Petrino and D. Hall can work out their differences because Hall is a great cornerback. He's young, athletic, and plays with emotion. He's definitely a playmaker on defense and I believe he has the ability to be a Champ Bailey like player. I can understand if Petrino wants to be a tough coach, but he has to remember that he's in the NFL, a players league, and if the reports are true that he's cursing and getting in players faces, it's probably not going to work because these guys are grown men.
Last on this subject, I've heard several AJC columnist trying to suggest that Hall's recent meltdown has to do with the fact that he played in Virginia Tech. They try to tie his behavior to Michael Vick's conduct, also a former Virginia Tech player. I think that's garbage and irresponsible.
