Falcons' running back Warrick Dunn (injured left calf) and Jerious Norwood (Grade 1 MCL strain) are questionable for Atlanta's Saturday home game against the Dallas Cowboys. Both backs suffered leg injuries during Atlanta's 17 - 6 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Coach Jim Mora stated in his post-game press conference that Dunn is more likely than Norwood to suit up against America's Team. If neither back plays, then fullback Justin Griffith would likely see the goal-line carries and rookie Taurean Henderson might be called up from the practice squad.
Although Griffith is a proven commodity at the fullback position, he and especially Henderson are unproven as starting running backs. This uncertainty could be costly since Atlanta's offense is definitely tailored around the run. Michael Vick and the rest of the offense are going to have to step up their game to assist the running backs. I expect the Falcons will have Vick carry the ball more against the Cowboys. The injuries to Dunn and Norwood couldn't have come at a worst time because the game against Dallas is a must win for the Dirty Birds who are on the playoff bubble. If the Falcons lose, then they will fall behind the winner of the New York Giants versus the Philiadephia Eagles game for the wildcard playoff spot.
