Georgia 20, Kentucky 24

If you’re going to have a down year, then your down year might as well be really bad. Georgia has subscribed to this belief as they lose to the lowly Kentucky Wildcats at Commonwealth Stadium. This was such an upset that the Kentucky fans pulled down a goal post. Georgia enters the home stretch of the season 6 – 4 as they finish against #5 Auburn and # 19 Georgia Tech. Although I believe the Bulldogs have at least one upset left in them, they could possibly finish the season 6 – 6 and still be eligible for a bowl. My question – should UGA go to a bowl after such a disappointing season?

(Un) fortunately, I didn’t watch the game because I was helping Wubya move into his cool East Atlanta home. However, we listened to part of the game on the radio, with living legend Larry Munson providing play-by-play and commentary. From the looks of the stats and articles about the game, the Dawgs continued to play uninspired football. The offense turned the ball over, the G-Day defense continued to break under pressure, and the coaching staff continued to make mistakes.

Perhaps it’s time Georgia makes some coaching changes. The offensive line has been suspect the last two seasons. They don’t protect the quarterback well and they don’t create running lines for the tailbacks. Maybe we need a new offensive line coach. UGA’s receivers have been consistently dropping balls for the last five years. At first I thought it was talent, but now I’m starting to think that it’s the coach. Maybe we need a new wide receivers coach. The G-Day defense has lost its fire. They haven’t tackled well, forced turnovers, or made the big stop when the game was on the line. Maybe we need a new defensive coordinator. Lastly, maybe it’s time the Dawgs hire an offensive coordinator. I think opposing teams have figured out Coach Richt’s offensive play calling.

This off season will be a testament to Coach Richt’s coaching ability. Will he make the needed changes to return Georgia to national prominence, or will he stay with the status quo and hope our team does better next season? Richt’s a winner, I think he’ll reevaluate and make the needed changes.
