It's been a little over a week since I graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law. It's hard to believe, but it's finally over and I'm so glad. Law school has been one of the hardest things I've ever done. It's tough on so many levels. I can honestly say that I went through the gambit of emotions while I was in law school. Some days I felt like I made the best decision of my life, while other days I felt like I must have really hated myself because of the pain law school causes.
What makes it so bad is that it's hard. It's not impossible, but the professors try their best to make it seem that way. Don't get me wrong, there are some really nice and caring professors, but it's similar to a mental bootcamp. Only the strong survive, and the professors aren't afraid to tell the weak it's time for the them to ship out. Additionally, it's tough because grades are based on something similar to a bell curve. In other words, only a certain number of students can get A's, i.e. you can take the best test of your life, but it may not be better than the person sitting beside you. So, it's kind of competitive. Additionally, there is only one test per semester, so your grade is determined on how you do on that particular day.
The good thing about law school is you're surrounded by some of the smartest people in the world. I'm talking people who are amazingly smart and well traveled. Like all places, some are nice and others aren't. Either way, I'm done with law school and I'm happy about that.
