#5 Georgia 48, Vanderbilt 3

Georgia’s game against Vanderbilt last night was a fan’s dream come true.  The Bulldogs came out focused and dominated all three phases of the game.  The Commodores simply looked inept and there was no question this was going to be rout.

Aaron Murray and the offense was precise, cutting through Vandy’s defense like a scalpel.  His throws had zip and were more importantly accurate.  He finished 18 of 24 for 250 yards and 2 touchdowns.  He showed command of the huddle, he’s throwing the ball all over, and he looked like he was having fun.  I believe Murray’s success stems from having a consistent running game.  Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall are the truth.  I like the fact that they are friends, roommates, challenge each other to be better, and embrace sharing touches.  Gurley finished with 130 yards, 2 touchdowns, and several Sportscenter highlight runs.  Marshall finished with 82 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The success of these two freshman stem from the amazing play of the offensive line that have created rushing lanes and protected the young guys.  Additionally, the running game is helped by the passing game, because defenses have to stay honest because Georgia receivers – Marlon Brown, Tavarres King, Rhett McGowan, Rantavious Wooten, Chris Conley, Michael Bennett, and Malcolm Mitchell – can all catch the ball and get open.

This was definitely a fulfilling game.  I hope the Dawgs can carry this momentum into the meat of the SEC schedule.
