Atlanta Beat, circa 2001 and 2009

The story of the Beat, Atlanta's professional women's soccer team is similar to the story of the phoenix.  The original team kicked off their inaugural season in 2001.  The founding members were U.S. National Team standouts were Briana Scurry, Cindy Parlow and Nikki Serlenga.  Additional, the Blue Notes had the first pick in the inaugural Women's United Soccer Association ("WUSA") draft and picked 1999 Women's World Cup standout Sun Wen (China).

The original Atlanta Beat made the WUSA plays three consecutive seasons and made it to the Founders' Cup final twice - 2001 and 2003.  Unfortunately, they lost both matches.  In 2003, the WUSA suspended play and the Atlanta Beat disbanded.

In 2009, like the phoenix, the Beat rose from the ashes and joined the Women's Professional League ("WPL").  The new Atlanta Beat changed their colors to Gold and Ferrari Red.  The team plays at the state of art Kennesaw State University Soccer Stadium.  It is a soccer specific stadium and it seats 8,500 fans.
