It hard for me to say, but Georgia is simply not a good football team. They rank 61st in passing yards, 84th in rushing yards, 63rd in points for, and 39th in points against. I still support Coach Mark Richt, but he and his staff need to get it together. No disresepct to Mississippi State, but UGA should never lose to them, especially by 12 points.
At the start of the season I believed that our running backs - Washaun Ealey and Caleb King - would be strong, but so far they have both under performed. Ealey's turning into a goal line fumble machine, as he once again fumbled at the goal line. Caleb King made his return to action, but only netted 23 yards on the ground. At this point, I am not sure if its the tailbacks or the offensive line that is leading to our poor ground attack. Either way, something has to change.
Aaron Murray and Kris Durham appear to be the only two offensive players with moxy. Both make the big plays when we need them. For example, Murray ran hard in the third quarter for at least two first downs after he realized the play had broken down. Murray also went 18 of 31 for 274 yards and 1 touchdown. On a bright note, the offensive line did a good job of protecting Murray. Durham finished with 4 receptions for 64 yards, and Tavarres King add 79 yards and 1 touchdown.
Unfortunately, after 3 conference games it has become apparent that this group of guys is not ready for the "Junkyard Dawgs" nickname. They lack a mean and nastiness associated with such a nickname; therefore, they will be called the Defense. In fairness, they held their own for most of the game, but seem to struggle stopping third downs late in the game. They were probably tired because the spent a significant amount of time on the field, as our offense continually went three and out and Mississippi State went on long drives.
I look at our schedule and do not see any automatic wins. I am afraid that this is going to be a long season, especially if we continue to play this poorly.
