Healthcare Bill Passes

The United States House of Representatives voted yes to healthcare reform on Sunday, March 21, 2010. The passage of healthcare reform bill will provide an avenue for more than 30 million Americans to obtain health insurance who previously did not have insurance. In a jubilant and proud moment, President Obama signed the bill into law on Tuesday, and today he held firm to his pledge to sign an executive order prohibiting the use of federal funds for elective abortions covered by private insurance.

Although the bill has passed, some Republican lawmakers have vowed to continue fighting until the healthcare reform bill is repealed and replaced. Additionally, twelve Attorney Generals have filed lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of the healthcare bill.

I’m interested to see how far the Republicans are willing to take their fight. It seem like it makes much sense to advocate for people to be denied coverage based on preexisting conditions, removing tax credits from small businesses, and telling parents they can’t keep their children on their insurance.
