I finally made it to the movie theater to watch the Watchman, the movie adaptation of the award winning graphic novel. After reading the novel and watching the movie, I actually think the movie better because it was more condensed and focused. The graphic novel had a little too much going on, especially pirate story within a story and the newspaper stand side story. I much prefer the streamline version of only focusing on the heroes.
The story is really a character study about people who’d chose to wear costumes and fight crime, and the bottom line seemed to be that some of the people would probably have real issues, i.e. borderline sociopaths with a perverse sense of justice; adventure types looking for a trill, and those with exceptional gifts who help but are detached from the imperfect human existence.
I rate the movie a B. It makes the most out of a story that’s not the clearest. It’s definitely a movie you should see in the theater with surround sound and digital screen.
