Before I start, I mean no disrespect to the Capital One Bowl or the Michigan State Spartans, but at the beginning of the season, this is not where the Georgia Bulldogs hoped to end their season. The team started the preseason ranked number one, but slowly but surely lost that ranking even while continuing to win. As a fan, I along with others argued that style points didn’t matter because although the Bulldogs didn’t win by large score differentials, they could beat the best and the meanest in college football. Unfortunately, this argument got beaten out the mouths of Georgia fans when the team was mauled Between the Hedges for one-half by the Alabama Crimson Tide; kicked in the face with hob-nailed boot by Florida; and completely run over by Georgia Tech.
Now the Bulldogs find themselves playing in the Capital One Bowl against Michigan State in a January bowl game, but not the BCS Title game as they hoped. State’s start player is running back Javon Ringer, an All-Big Ten player who rushed for 1,590 yards and led the nation in scoring (10.5 points per game).
For Georgia, the team hopes to at least finish with a 10 win season for the sixth time under Coach Mark Richt, and maybe the final game for quarterback Matthew Stafford and running back Knowshon Moreno who may opt for entering the NFL draft in April. Regardless of whether Stafford or Moreno head to the league, this game needs to be launching pad for next season as the team was humbled, especially by Florida, and they really need a “slump buster” to get their swagger back.
