Birds (Trying to) Make Moves

The AJC reports that the Atlanta Hawks agreed in principle to trade for Sacramento Kings veteran point guard Mike Bibby. The Hawks will send veteran point guards Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue, second-year backup forward Sheldon Williams, and veteran center Lorenzen Wright.

If the trade goes through, the Hawks’ chances of making the playoffs will definitely improve as Bibby’s career averages are 16.7 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds. He’s definitely a leader on the court, he has playoff experience, and he’s definitely able to hit the big shot. The Baby Birds have needed a consistent point guard all season and now we’ll finally have a guy that the run the offense.

The best part about this potential trade is the Hawks didn’t have to lose any key players. Although Johnson and Lue were great contributors, neither guy was a long term solution to our point guard problems. Sheldon Williams at this stage in his career can be considered a bust, since he was the 5th pick in the NBA draft. Wright is nothing more than a NBA journeyman at best, so he wasn’t a permanent fixture. Now we need a legitimate center.
