The final BCS rankings were released several weeks back and like this year’s college football season, it was filled with surprises. Like most Bulldog fans, I was disappointed that we didn’t get an opportunity to play for the national title as we finished the season strong as opposed to both Louisiana State and Ohio State, who suffered loses to unranked teams at the end of the season.
With that being said, I completely understand why coaches and writers didn’t put Georgia in the big game – we didn’t win the SEC and LSU did. At least in the current system, it wouldn’t make since to place third best team in the SEC, according to conference standings, in the national title game. However, if we had a playoff, Georgia should definitely be invited.
I guess you could argue that national championship caliber teams either beat the teams they should or at least win their conferences. If Georgia had won the SEC, I truly believe we’d be playing for the national title, but since we didn’t, we’re headed to the Sugar Bowl to play a red hot undefeated Hawaii.
Georgia needs to be prepared to play against Hawaii with its high octane offense and a stout defense. We need to get over not going to the national title game and not take the Rainbow Warriors for granted, as they have a big chip on their shoulders and they have lots to prove. The media has discredited their undefeated season, stating they only played cupcakes and shouldn’t really be in a BCS bowl. They’ll be ready to lash out against the Bulldogs and we have to be ready to put them in their place in an impressive fashion. We can’t turn into this year’s Oklahoma who lost to similarly situated Boise State last year.
The Dawgs need to stick to what works – a heavy dose of Knowshon Moreno and Thomas Brown. Once the running game is established, let Matthew Stafford pick apart the secondary, and when we’re on defense, let the G-Day defense use its speed, tenacity, and complexity to attack and confuse the Rainbow Warriors.
I think this game has the potential to be exciting and another nationally televised win will give the Bulldogs an excellent launch pad for next season. Moreno for Heisman 2008!
