Georgia set the mood after its first score of the game when the entire team rushed the field and celebrated. As a fan, I loved seeing this because it put Florida on notice – we’re not afraid you; we’re tired of hearing how you dominate us; we’re the University of Georgia Bulldogs and we’re here to win the game! My first game ball goes out to Coach Mark Richt and the rest of the coaching staff for putting together a flawless game plan and finally showing some emotion and allowing the players to play with passion. Mark Richt finally showed some passion on the sideline! As a fan, I don’t mind sporadic un-sportsmen like penalties if the players are doing their job and making big plays – let them celebrate.
Georgia followed my proposed game plan by heavily running the ball with Knowshon Moreno and he didn’t disappoint. He finished with a career day: 188 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. Quarterback Matthew Stafford also delivered on the big stage, going 11 of 18 for 217 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Wide receivers Mohamed Massaquoi and Mikey Henderson scored receiving touchdowns, and fullback Brannan Sutherland also caught a touchdown. My second game ball goes to the young Bulldog offensive line. Without their hard play and protection, Moreno and Stafford wouldn’t have had the big games they had. The Dawgs didn’t allow any sacks and controlled the line of scrimmage.
My third and biggest game ball goes to the G-Day defense. Prior to the game, the Gators had only allowed 7 sacks all season, and the G-Day defense sacked Florida quarterback Tim Tebow 6 times, they also held him to -15 yards rushing, and confused him with exotic blitz packages. Although they allowed 24 points, they properly contained the high powered Florida offense and never let them gain momentum.
I’m so happy Georgia finally stood up to Florida and beat them. The Dawgs controlled the entire game and looked like the national powerhouse they are. We took back our SEC destiny and now we have to finish the drill and beat Troy, Auburn, Kentucky, and Georgia Tech. If we win out, and South Carolina loses, the Bulldogs will be heading to Atlanta and the SEC title game. Go Dawgs!
