Introducing No. 4

Joey Harrington’s days as the Atlanta Falcons’ starting quarterback are numbered. The much rumored signing of quarterback Bryon Leftwich became a reality last night. Leftwich, wearing the number 4 jersey, started his official career as an Atlanta Falcon today, practicing with the team. When asked why he didn’t choose to wear number 7, his number in Jacksonville, he commented, “we all know that No. 7 is Mike [Vick’s] number”. He was reportedly all smiles as he showcased his rocket arm strength and joked about his immobility, jokingly saying, “I’m not the slowest quarterback. I’m just the slowest Black one” and adding “I’m not that slow y’all. I just look slow. I’ve got like a Randy Moss stride.”

The Leftwich signing is definitely an upgrade although I think it’s not a permanent solution to the Falcons quarterback problem. His career record as a starting quarterback is 24-20, as compared to Harrington’s 23-24 record. He has a quick release, strong arm, and in the past he’s supposedly been a great teammate. Leftwich signed a two-year, $6 million contract.
