Michael Vick is at a crossroads in his football career and in his personal life. In his football career, he ranked near the bottom in accuracy, QB rating, and passing yards. Vick failed to lead his team to the playoffs for a second season; he never took personal responsibility for his poor play and he didn’t defend the coach who defended him all season. In his personal life, Vick’s had several misshapes this off-season: the airport incident with the water bottle with the secret compartment and marijuana smell; the congressional incident where he missed his flight to speak to Congress about after school programs, and recently, the pit-bull incident where people allegedly close to him trained dogs for fighting.
Bad choices made by him and his associates are starting to catch up to him. Vick is currently learning a hard but sad truth – people will ignore and/or forgive your indiscretions when you lead your team to victory and they believe you respect them as fans and patrons of your team, but once the winning stops and you know longer show them respect, then any and every indiscretion will be held against you.
Every indiscretion is being held against Vick. He lost his luster when he gave the Falcons’ fans “the bird” after a home loss to the New Orleans Saints. His every action is scrutinized and punishment for those actions seems inevitable.
I hope Vick doesn’t become the next superstar athlete to waste away his opportunity and celebrity because of overall bad choices.
