The Atlanta Falcons 17 – 6 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was bitter sweet as they lost two of their offensive weapons – running backs Warrick Dunn and Jerious Norwood. Dunn limped off the field in the third quarter with a left calf injury, and Norwood left the field two plays later with a sore right knee. Their status for the rest of the season is unknown. Hopefully, we’ll get them back next week for our primetime showdown with the Dallas Cowboys.
Fortunately for the Dirty Birds, fullback Justin Griffith filled the gap and rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown. Dunn had 45 yards before he was injured and Norwood had 32 yards. Vick had a decent game. He finished 14 of 23 for 155 yards and 1 interception. Atlanta’s wide receivers finally showed up and made catches when the team needed them. Ashley Lelie had 49 yards, Alge Crumpler had 30 yards, Roddy “Rowdy” White had 17 yards, and running backs Dunn had 27 yards, Norwood had 4 yards, Dwayne Blakely had 14 yards, and Griffith had 8 yards.
The game ball goes to the Dirty Bird defense because they kept the Falcons in the game while the offense stalled. They forced the Bucs to several three-and-outs and Demorrio Williams forced Bruce Gradkowski to fumble the ball. This play changed the momentum. Keith Brooking had 11 solo tackles; Mike Boley had 8 solo tackles. John Abraham had 1 sack and 3 solo tackles.
