Georgia 15, #16 Georgia Tech 12

Georgia keeps its winning streak against in-state rival Georgia Tech with an impressive defensive win. Although this season has been one of lows, the Bulldogs ended with an impressive two game winning streak against two of our biggest rivals – Auburn and Georgia Tech. Both teams were ranked opponents and most people, probably rightfully so, said we had no chance because of embarrassing loses to Vanderbilt and Kentucky, but the Dawgs once again show their resolve and commitment to winning. Georgia’s future is bright.

The offense continued to show improvement from the beginning of the season. As I stood between the Hedges, I could tell that the game is beginning to slow down for Matthew Stafford. Although his numbers weren’t great, he’s learning to protect the football and not make costly mistakes. He finished 16 of 29 for 171 yards and 1 touchdown. The running backs showed life, with Kregg Lumpkin rushing for 51 yards and Danny Ware rushing for 41 yards. Most importantly, the wide receivers continued to show that they could catch the ball. Mohamed Massaquoi returned to his freshman consistency, catching 6 balls for 46 yards, while tight end Martrez Milner finished his regular season career with 3 receptions for 33 yards, and up-and-coming receivers Kenneth Harris and Mario Raley each added 39 and 21 respective yards.

Bowl invitations won’t be posted until next week, but after back-to-back wins against top 25 schools, I can finally say that they deserve an invitation to a bowl and they should accept. It was also good to hear that Coach Mark Richt allowed quarterback coach Mike Bobo to call plays against Tech. Richt had become too predictable and it was time for a change. A good coach always puts his ego aside and does what’s best for the team.

Although I’m glad Tech lost and from a Georgia fan standpoint I’m glad this happened to him, but as a person I feel sorry for Tech quarterback Reggie Ball. He gets so much criticism, I can’t say if he deserves it or not, because I don’t follow Tech football, but I can say that he plays terribly against UGA. He thankfully went 0 – 4 against the Bulldogs, had a completion percentage of 43.3, averaged 104.5 pass yards per game, and had a touchdown to interception ratio of 1 – 5. That’s bad.
