#16 Georgia 22, Vanderbilt 24

Did you know? Georgia hasn’t lost to Vanderbilt in 11 years and Georgia hasn’t suffered back-to-back home losses since 1995. Well, this weekend the streaks end as the Bulldogs suffered an embarrassing last second lose to the Commodores. To add salt to the Bulldog Nations’ womb, it was homecoming. Two things categorize this year’s football campaign: inconsistent play across the board and lack of leadership. It appears that no one wants to step up and consistently make the big play when we need it most. It’s evident after the Vandy game that we’re young at a lot of positions and guys are struggling. Our offensive line is getting bullied and pushed back, thus making it hard to establish a solid running attack, which in turns puts added pressure on our young quarterbacks.

Saturday’s game also highlighted our deficiency at cornerback and safety. We couldn’t stop the pass. Additionally, our defensive ends appear to lack speed to stop the outside run and our interior linemen aren’t doing a good job clogging the middle. Teams have figured us out: spread the G-Day defense out by running four or five wide receiver sets, and let the quarterback throw all over the place.

I think it’s time for the Georgia coaches to reevaluate their coaching strategies. If all your quarterbacks are playing inconsistently, then its time to abandon the dual quarterback system and pick one and at least let one get into a rhythm and build trust with the other offensive players. I understand the argument of wanting to protect Matthew Stafford by not overloading him with the full playbook or putting him in situations where he’s likely to fail. Well, it seems we’re doing just that. For the past two games Stafford has entered the game in the fourth quarter and been asked to lead the march down field because he has a stronger arm than Joe T. Since we’ve been behind, the opposing defense has either been in protect or they blitz because they know Stafford’s young. Even the best quarterback who’s played the whole game would have a hard time beating these odds. Maybe the best protection for Stafford would’ve been for him to be redshirted and that way he could’ve played behind a more experienced offensive line and he would’ve had a better understanding of the playbook.

Next Week: Mississippi State Bizarro Bulldogs

For the first time since 2001 UGA is unranked. All though the rest of the season looks bad, I haven't given up on the Dawgs. Hopefully, they'll use these back-to-back losses as inspiration and get back on track and pull upsets over our hated rivils Florida, Auburn, and Ga. Tech. Go DAWGS! Sic um!
