On Friday, Erk Russell, a beloved longtime defensive coordinator under Vince Dooley passed away. As a result, an inspired Georgia Bulldogs team took the field and got their first shutout in three years as they defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks 18 – 0. The G-Day defense looked great.
The big story out of tonight’s game is the high ankle sprain suffered by starting quarterback Joe Tereshinski III. According to reports, he’s supposed to miss the next three games. Freshman Matthew Stafford is slated to start and redshirt freshman Joe Cox is slated as the backup. Stafford got the nod for tonight’s game and looked good although he finished with three interceptions. Stafford has a great upside – arm strength, mobility, vision, and seemed to have great composure. He finished 8 of 19 with 171 yards and 34 yards rushing.
Overall, the dawgs offense looked good. Thomas Brown rushed for 69 yards, Danny Ware rushed for 43 yards and 1 touchdown, Kregg Lumpkin rushed for 36 yards and Brandon Coutu kicked 3 field goals. The Bulldog wide receivers actually looked good and caught the ball.
Next week: Alabama Birmingham
