Until recently, there hasn’t been a football turnpike from Athens to Atlanta because the Falcons rarely drafted or free agent signed recently departed UGA players. This always surprised me because both teams are in such close proximity and UGA has been a consistent winner over the last five years. You’d think that more UGA players would’ve at least gotten invitations to summer mini-camps because Falcons officials would’ve at least seen the Georgia players compete against top notch SEC opponents.
Linebacker Tony Taylor and punter Gordon Ely-Kelso were given invitations to Falcons summer mini-camps. Tony Taylor led the team with 96 tackles, 7 interceptions, and scored 2 touchdowns off turnovers, and Gordon Ely-Kelso averaged 39.6 yards per punt and put 13 of his 51 punts inside the 20 yard line.
Both players will definitely be completing to make the team, but at least they’ll have the guidance of former UGA quarterback D.J. Shockley who’s on the team and wide receiver Fred Gibson who’s been in the NFL to help them during the mini camps. Good luck Dawgs!
