$hamrock - One Step Away

Ego Trip’s The (White) Rapper Show debuted on VH1 in January 2007. The simple premise of the show was to find the next great White rapper. The Ego Trip crew, led my MC Serch of 3rd Base fame searched the country looking for the nation’s best White rappers. After numerous auditions, the top 10 finalists were named: Dasit, Misfit Dior, G-Child, 100 Proof, Sulle, Jon Boy, Persia, Jus Rhyme, John Brown, and my boy $hamrock.

The 10 rappers selected were taken to the South Bronx where they’d live in “Tha White House” and compete in hip-hop-centered challenges for the opportunity to win $100,000 and the title of the “Next Great White Rapper”. We’re seven episodes into the season and only two MC’s remain – “the King of the Burbs” John Brown and Rockdale’s own $hamrock.

$hamrock is my pick to win the competition because he’s shown tremendous heart and hunger as he’s outlasted eight other competitors. His love for the hip-hop cultural is evident in every bar he’s spit. Amazingly through all this, he’s maintained a humbleness and appreciation for constructive criticism from past and present rap icons. Where others have remained stubborn, $ham has incorporated their critiques as a tool to improve his rap ability.

I’m proud of my boy T-Mo because he’s chasing his dream and he’s representing the Dirty South hard. He could’ve easily folded under pressure, but he’s stood strong and now he’s on the verge of winning $100,000 and catapulting himself into American pop-culture. T-Mo – keep making the Roc proud!
