Down with Auburn

This weekend's game against Auburn is the biggest game since the Florida game (I don't care if it's the next game). If UGA wins, they go the SEC championship game in Atlanta, and if they lose, the don't. I generally don't have any distain for the Tigers / War Eagles, at least no more than I have for any other Georgia opponents, but this weekend - Die Auburn Die!

According to University of Georgia Red and Black, the second best college newspaper (the best is the Emory Wheel), there are five keys to a Bulldog win:

  1. Georgia has to Score. Auburn's defense is second in the SEC in scoring, allowing just 12.7 points per game, so UGA needs to put points on the board.
  2. Keep Auburn from Scoring. Auburn ranks first in the SEC in scoring, averaging 35.2 points per game. The G-Unit defense will have to stop them.
  3. Protect Shockley. This is Shockley's first game back, so the offensive line will have to protect him, and hopefully Coach Richt will limit his use of the QB draw.
  4. Be Efficient in the Red Zone. Georgia has struggled scoring touchdowns this season, so hopefully will be able to score touchdowns instead of field goals.
  5. Forget Florida. That was two weeks ago, and this game will be the difference between going to the title game or watching an undeserving Florida play for the SEC title.

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- What I'll take from here is the atmosphere. What I mean is the frenetic, deafening, chaotic atmosphere that is now Gamecocks football. And it's all thanks to Steve Spurrier.
"It's like this is Tennessee or Georgia or I don't know what," South Carolina tackle Na'Shan Goddard said after a 30-22 defeat of Florida.

That's right. South Carolina over Florida. For the first time since 1939. For the first time since Gone With The Wind and the Wizard of Oz were in theaters.
