Falcons Survive a Texas Shootout

The Atlanta Falcons survived a 34-31 Texas shootout against the displaced New Orleans Saints in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Every since Hurricane Katrina, the Saints have been a traveling "home" team, playing games in East Rutherford (New York Giants Stadium), San Antonio, and will play in Baton Rouge (LSU Tiger Stadium).

Atlanta won off a last second field goal by Todd Peterson. Initially, Peterson missed the kick, but after a rare defensive holding penalty against New Orleans, Peterson was given a second chance and he put it between the goal post.

Overall, the Falcons looked inconsistent and beat up. The defense gave up 456 total yards, with 211 yards being on the ground. Michael Vick only went 11 of 23 for 211 yards and had 51 yards rushing. The only glimmer of hope came on the final two series: Keith Brooking and the rest of the defense forced a turnover and Michael Vick went 4 of 4 to get the Falcons in field goal range.

I've picked the Falcons to go to the Super Bowl, so Coach Jim Mora and owner Arthur Blank need to fix Atlanta woes. Posted by Picasa
